October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

There are numerous events coming up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in our campaign to “Turn the Town Pink”, which is a campaign that will commemorate and show support for the breast cancer survivors of both Fairbanks and North Pole. It will also bring awareness of the need for mammograms and regular self breast exams.

Here are the dates and events call us if you have any questions!

Come out & show your support at the following:

"Paint the Town Pink" Contest for Local Businesses

We want to encourage all businesses to provide their support by decorating their shops and selling items that bring awareness of breast cancer to the public.  We all know of someone who has been affected by this disease--what better way to show them your support!  BCDC will again sponsor a “Paint the Town Pink” contest during the month of October.  Participating businesses may call BCDC at 479-3909 for one of our judges to come out, view your decorations, and take pictures.  Last year’s participants included Farthest North Prosthetics, Airport Road Antique Store, Fairbanks Concert Association, The Stash, GVEA and Florcraft Carpet One.  The winning business this year may steal the plaque from Florcraft and will be featured in our article published at the end of the month.  Good luck to all of you!

Decorating Cushman Ave. with Pink Ribbons

October 1, 2009

The Breast Cancer Detection Center will hang pink ribbons down Cushman Avenue and down Airport Way for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and to commemorate and support local breast cancer survivors. We encourage other local businesses and individuals to do the same in their neighborhoods to show their support.  Let’s all  “Paint the Town Pink!”   A little advice about the ribbons:  they should probably be plastic as they will hold their shape better in inclement weather.  If you would like to come and help us hang our ribbons,  please call and let us know.
